Lil Wayne Sells 1 Million Albums in First Week

As expected Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter III’ sold a whopping ‘A Milli’ or in layman’s terms 1 million copies its first week. The highly-anticipated album’s impressive numbers come as no surprise considering 423,000 copies flew off the shelves in 24 hours.

‘Tha Carter III’ stands tall as the best selling album this year, despite excessive leaks and bootlegging, which forced some of the original project to be reworked and delayed. Wayne’s first week success tops Kanye West’s 2007 Graduation, which was just short of a million, and recent releases by pop superstars Madonna and Mariah Carey.

Labeled as one of the hardest working rappers out today, Wayne’s recent success can be attributed to his presence on almost every notable remix in the last year, the radio-friendly, poppy ‘Lollipop’ and the extensive amount of buzz placed around the project.

Weezy’s response to the album’s astounding sales: “[I’m] just very grateful, that’s it. Blown away, of course. Surprised, of course. Elated. Every positive word there is,” the rapper said in a recent interview.
